It’s that time of year when our young, best, and brightest are graduating from their academic programs and will be looking to make their way in the world. Just as was the case for their parents, the workforce they are entering is very different than the workforce their parents entered years ago. The nature of work is now more mobile and new employees have multiple computing and communication tools at their disposal.
As noted in Cisco’s recent Connected World Technology Report, 4 out of 5 new workers want to choose their own devices for computing and communications. This is the new reality of the Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) world in which we are rapidly evolving. Corporate IT needs new tools to protect the company’s assets, the company’s data on devices that are increasingly not provisioned by IT. IT needs to create a “footprint” of protection for the data on these devices so that the data is recoverable, encrypted, traceable, and can be deleted remotely when a device goes lost or stolen. Corporate IT also needs to provide these new graduates with secure and auditable ways to access corporate data from any device, anywhere, at anytime.

These “young and newfangled” graduates are the future of your company and are bringing new levels of productivity through their use of mobile technology. Corporate IT needs to be a responsible enabler of the new expectations of working that these new members of your family are bringing with them.
